EMPOwERING GIRLS

encouraging girls to explore stem

GIRL EMPOWERMENT

By taking action now,  help bring more women into STEM in the future; we are half of the population, and the largest untapped reservoir in the world. We deserve to be."
StempowerHer is a student run organization which teaches math and science to girls in hopes of encouraging them to explore and join the STEM world. There is a wide disparity between the numbers of men and women in  STEM fields, and studies have shown the cause to be that men grow up in a more supportive environment than women.
This organization's goal is to help achieve gender equality in the STEM field by teaching math and science to elementary and middle school girls, while developing strong relationships with them.

Sneak Peek Into Our Engineering Event!

MATH

Our goal is to create a supportive environment for girls who are born into society with several stereotypes about who women are. In hopes of eradicating this stereotype which lingers upon many girls' thoughts subconsciously, we educate young girls about STEM: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. As part of our goal of teaching girls about this field and the limitless achievements women have made, we hold experiments which tie math concepts from the elementary to middles school level. We hope to inspire these young girls to follow their dreams and to know that they are capable of whatever they want to achieve, no matter what society may say.
                                  SCIENCE

Women are underrepresented in the science fields as well, especially in engineering, and research proves that this is mainly because boys, starting at a young age, are more encouraged to explore the sciences while many girls lean more towards the humanities. To counter the streak of boys pursuing sciences more than girls, we teach science to girls. We hope our efforts will help them understand that they are equally as capable of becoming an engineer, a chemist, a physicist and more. More girls need to discover how much potential they have so they may take advantage of the opportunities that come their way.

As an organization run by girls ourselves, we hope to truly inspire these children to find their dream. Whenever girls may feel incompetent to achieve their goals, we encourage them so they are aware of their capabilities. We aim to develop a strong relationship with each student, and hope that when we reach out to these kids, they may truly be inspired to achieve their goals. Every young girl deserves to be in a supportive environment, and we exists for this very purpose: to host experiments for girls to deepen their understanding of STEM principles and inspire them to explore deeper, fearlessly, to reach new heights.

Why  it is Absolutely Imperative to Educate Girls
Educating girls math and science proves to be important in limitless ways because currently in the STEM field, the gender gap is overblown: men outnumber women incessantly. Recent research of the last two decades have shown that obvious gender gaps do not prevail because men are more intelligent. And surprisingly, several sectors, academic, and government fields reported a female dominated workforce. However, in the industry, men strongly outnumbered women, especially in the computer science and engineering fields. The US Census Bureau reports that on average, women earn 31% less than men. Why is this so? Women are just as qualified to work in the STEM field. Interestingly enough, some researchers' studies have proven that girls outperform boys at the elementary level due to the difference in nature. As half of the population, women will not grow submissive to the male-dominated world of STEM. As equals, let us support this cause to inspire girls to dream big and pursue STEM fields boldly.
